The Real Start of Your Custom Home Project
If you've been part of custom home projects, you understand the anticipation of progress has a wonderful excitement to it, but the concrete wall pour is extra special. For our clients, this is the moment it feels like it is real. The home is taking shape, and the project schedule starts to lock in for good.
In this week’s video, we’re taking you behind the scenes of a concrete pour, showing you what really happens when those walls go up and why it’s such a key stage in the construction process.
The Moment the Schedule Becomes Real
At iLevel Construction, we often tell our clients: the project schedule doesn’t truly lock in until concrete hits the ground. That's a big part of why things go as smoothly as they do, weather and concrete availability are big factors - especially here, in this area, with on its unpredictability.
But, once the concrete trucks show up, the countdown really begins. The pump truck is feeding the forms, the stinger is vibrating the mix to get rid of air pockets, and the next thing you know you have smooth, solid walls popping up.
What’s Happening Behind the Forms
You might notice in the video that we’ve got everything planned down to the smallest detail:
- Garage floor drains are already set with a 6-inch pipe that runs to daylight.
- Door openings are precisely blocked out.
- Walls reaching up to 14 feet in height in some areas, creating a 10-foot basement with a walk-out design.
It takes coordination between multiple teams, concrete trucks lined up on the road, and a bit of engineering finesse to make it all come together safely and efficiently.
What Comes Next
With walls poured, the next few days are all about progress. Once the forms are stripped, we’ll move on to foundation waterproofing, drain tile installation, and backfill work. After that, the plumbing grounder steps in for radon mitigation, and then, it’s framing time.
That’s when your home really starts to rise above ground, and every step from here builds on the solid foundation we’ve just created.
